The Eaton Workshop foundation is based upon founder Kat Lo’s formative years working as an activist in the world of grassroots resistance. Many of the social movements at that time were profoundly influenced by the 1994 Zapatista movement for indigenous liberation in Chiapas, Mexico. In particular, the lesson from the Zapatistas that words are our truest weapons in the struggle for liberation for all.
Now celebrating its 2-year anniversary of locations in D.C. and Hong Kong, Eaton is running Another World is Possible, an “impact-driven virtual multimedia festival” from December 3-7, 2020. 12 original short films produced by Eaton will be premiered, alongside 1 feature length documentary, as well as daily live panel discussions with frontline activists and filmmakers, and a night of music and DJ sets.
Lo describes the concept behind the festival: “Our shorts are truly “indie media” – raw, gritty, poetic, from filmmakers all around the world, all telling a story of seeking personal and political liberation, exploring deeper truths about humanity and the planet. With this festival, the films are no longer just films, they become part of a larger social change movement, they are – as words are – our tools in the movement. Our vision for this festival honours Eaton’s commitment to progressive social change through the power of storytelling.
