Sanjay Patel (@sanjaybpatel) is a Canadian born abstract fine artist of Indian descent, who recently relocated to beautiful Smiths Falls. Sanjay’s earliest memories of wanting to be an artist were in elementary school. He was lucky to have great teachers who inspired and nurtured his creativity from a young age. He worked with kids while in high school mentoring and teaching in class and at art camp during the summers. After attending post secondary institute Sanjay found himself getting burnt out in a 9-5 and craving the motherland. He went back to his home state of Gujarat in India to rejuvenate and reinspire himself. When he returned home Sanjay found himself exploring music and film production and photography, Performing with various bands, working on set and shooting events and nature. But somehow he found his way back to painting. He has now been focused on his craft full-time for the past 10 years. Over this time, he has created more than 600 original works. Sanjay is primarily a commissioned artist, and believes abstract art should be relatable and loves producing original artwork for his clients that represents who they are, while still capturing the essence of his unique style. He is happiest when his clients can relate to his work and find meaning on a deeply personal level. One of the most active areas of Sanjay’s career is his Live Painting appearances; he has produced paintings to capture the energy at over 250 festivals, grand openings, corporate events and private parties. Sanjay’s work is inspired by those around him: people he meets, the environment he finds himself in, the energy of the crowds around him, serene landscapes and busy cityscapes. A natural connector, Sanjay is able to translate this feeling onto the canvas, a representation of that moment in time.
Trisha Smith (@musicwithmisst) is an artist / producer / programmer of Ojibway and British descent. She began her foray into the dramatic at a young age. She explored her creativity in many aspects of her day to day life with her familial adult role models: singing with Grandma Smith, making things with found objects and rocks with Grandpa Smith, baking with Grandma Jiggs, crafting and sewing with Mom and storytelling and building things with Dad. Her interests peaked at the performing arts and she began auditioning at a young age. She performed in various vocal groups, recording albums and jingles. She explored dance and acting. Once, attempted a career in sports which got abruptly ended, breaking her ankle in an unrelated athletic injury. After moving to Toronto and attending school, she spent some time giving back, working with children and adults alike: teaching, sharing and empowering people to express themselves through the arts. As a children’s performer, she created her own persona, Miss T. Music with Miss T incorporated everything she has learned in her studies and experience as a musician and a teacher into one dynamic, interactive children’s performance. While in Hamilton, with Smith & Patel, Trisha has produced, hosted and curated live art events of all sorts, connecting artists and creating opportunities for collaboration. She is excited to have the opportunity to bring people together and be able to honour her ancestors through everything she creates.
