No stranger to the Canadian art scene, Jojee Apparel designer Michelle Bylow has previously been an owner of Toronto underground art gallery “Moniker”, and currently holds the position of Executive Director at RAW Artists Canada, where thousands of independent artists have been able to jump start their careers.
Bylow has spent the past 9 months working on the Too Cool for TV collection, which saw every garment handmade in her Ontario-based studio. The types of clothing items available in the collection range from pants, shirts, hats, bags, masks and everything in-between.
“The Too Cool for TV Collection was a 9-month project” says Bylow. “I completed every aspect of the clothing from pattern drafting and grading to the actual construction. It is the largest collection I have completed to date”.
With the pandemic negatively affecting small businesses throughout the country, buying local has become more important than ever. “Instead of purchasing from a large corporation or a company outside of Canada, we should all be making an effort to support those within our communities”. When asked what Too Cool for TV stood for, Bylow responded “You don’t need media or TV to tell you what to wear or how to think. Be you and F*&# everything else”.
