Sheldon Sidney Thompson, known as Sid Le Rock, has been a driving force in electronic music for nearly three decades. Influenced by the DIY electronic movement of the late ’90s, his distinctive production style has led to a prolific discography, including numerous albums and releases under various aliases. His music, shaped by his global experiences as a composer and performer, continues to resonate across the underground scene.
A highly respected artist, Sid has released music on esteemed labels such as Beachcoma, My Favourite Robot, Kompakt, Mute Records, Shitkatapult and Hafendisko. His work has been remixed by the likes of DJ Koze, Acid Pauli, Brett Johnson and Gui Boratto, while he himself has remixed tracks for Depeche Mode, Placebo, and Fairmont, among others. Despite his deep-rooted studio credentials, he has always prioritized artistic integrity over main stream recognition.
Originally from Canada, Sid spent 20 years in Cologne and Berlin before recently returning to Toronto, where he continues to push creative boundaries. Over the years, he has delivered a string of well-received albums, showcasing his ability to blend electronic and organic elements with an unmistakable personal touch. His music spans everything from indie electronica to club-oriented sounds, maintaining a signature style that is both innovative and timeless.
In addition to his solo work, Sid co-founded Beach coma Recordings in 2009, providing a platform for cutting-edge electronic music. The label has since amassed a diverse catalog of releases, further establishing his influence in the industry. His latest album, Invisible Nation, is a deeply personal and conceptual work that celebrates his indigenous heritage, seamlessly integrating traditional influences with modern electronic textures.
